Reducing Surface Tension
Reducing surface tension is one of the paramount functions of surfactants. (3) Solubilization: Certain oils only dissolve when surfactants are present, which occurs at the colloid's critical concentration. Solubility is influenced by the solubilized object and its properties. For solubilization, long hydrophobic hydrocarbon chains surpass short ones, saturated hydrocarbon chains outperform unsaturated ones, and nonionic surfactants typically deliver a pronounced solubilization effect.
